I have fond memories of many RSPB walks with John and recall his uncanny ability to spot raptors before anyone else. On one walk at Arne he spotted a fledgling tawny owl branching high in an oak tree - no one else would have spotted this. John was a true gentleman and will be sadly missed by his friends from the RSPB New Forest Local Group.
